NEVADA DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES
Information Management Services

Information Management Services (IMS) supports the safety, permanency and well being of children, families and communities by providing accurate and accessible information.  IMS supports three primary automated systems as well as a number of smaller databases.

IMS Responsibilities:

Ø All system design, development and operational activities
Ø Network Services
Ø Help Desk Services for all systems statewide
Ø Operations and Maintenance
Ø Reports and Data
Ø Training

IMS Systems:

UNITY - (Unified Nevada Information Technology for Youth) is the Statewide Automated Child Welfare Information System (SACWIS) for Nevada.  It is used to record foster care, adoption, child protective services, licensing, and other Child Welfare activities.  UNITY is used statewide by approximately 1,600 staff and has been operational since 2003.  In 2004, UNITY was awarded a Computerworld Honor for Excellence.
Avatar - (Children’s Mental Health Billing and Clinician Workstations) is used statewide by 130 clinicians and billing staff to record and manage Children’s Mental Health information.  In the summer of 2005, it is anticipated that an additional 220 users will be added to Avatar.
SOAR - (Solutions for Online Activity Reporting) is a web-based reporting system used statewide to monitor progress in meeting the requirements of the federally mandated Performance Improvement Plan (PIP).  Reports are based on UNITY data.  Based on security levels, a report viewer is accessible via a web browser.  Authorized staff can view selected reports by statewide, county, office, supervisor and worker levels.

Future Activities:

Develop new reports and functionality to support the Performance Improvement Plan
IV-E Eligibility functionality for UNITY which will automate eligibility determinations
Development of meaningful performance measures and benchmarks

IMS Support:

Help Desk - The staff is available to users from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.  The phone number for the Help Desk is (775) 687-9010.  They answer questions about IMS applications, security, and system log-ons, as well as questions regarding DCFS e-mail, printers, and network log-ons.
Training - Two training sites are available for new users, for those needing re-training, and users training for a new system.  A 12-seat classroom is located in Carson City, and a 6-seat classroom is located in Las Vegas.

For more information contact IMS, or call (775) 687-9010
